I’m a novelist who often writes about writing. I don’t write about how to get published on Medium, because, to be honest, I’ve never tried to be an expert at that. I started writing here because I read a couple of articles when I first came here and realized that some of the advice was really bad, given out by people who hadn’t been published, but wanted to act like experts on being published. And then they led other people to think that was the way the business worked.

So, I went out of my way to share actual insights about the business and the process, because I’ve always been a writing mentor. Even though I’ve been here since the very early days, I’m probably known by no one because I wasn’t trying to build anything here other than just share information.

But I do like reading good writing, which is probably why I subscribed and remained. To be even more honest, I’d never even heard the word “curated” here before, which just shows how not focused on the business aspect of Medium I’ve always been.
