I stopped participating in spending money over the concept of holidays a long time ago. Manufactured holidays were always seen by me as a gimmick that corporations used in order to fatten their bottom dollars. At the same time, I'm extremely friendly to retailers and restaurant workers, because I perceive them as people, not means to an end. If an employee is rude to me, or the service is bad, I go elsewhere next time and chalk it up to a learning experience. I don't turn into a male Karen and then throw a fit like so many others do, convinced they're somehow more important than other people. Having been on the receiving end of bad behavior myself (you'd be shocked at how over time college students start to treat professors as fast food employees, thinking they're "customers" rather than recipients of knowledge), I believe we're heading down a path that doesn't have a way back, and we're going to be at the end of a bad journey sooner rather than later.
